Vocational College Ehingen / Donau

2004

1st prize in a competitive design study 2002

The existing vocational college had to be expanded by a new building with 10 classrooms, 2 special classrooms and 4 laboratories, a conference and a student lounge. In order to optimize the construction and operating costs, a compact building with the smallest possible footprint, exterior wall and roof surface was developed. On three levels, all rooms are arranged around a top-lit access hall, which also serves as an auditorium. The facades are clad with gray fiber cement boards, cuts in the building are clad in bright colors. The interior finish is dominated by exposed concrete and painted steel elements in the hall, wooden fittings and parquet floors in the classrooms. A controlled ventilation system with heat exchanger and heat recovery provides clean air in all rooms for low cost. The roof water trickles off in the adjacent meadow, the surplus is led into the adjacent creek.
