Expansion of a Secondary School Erbach

2009

1st prize in the overall competition 1992

A school building designed by our office in 1997 already took account of a possible future expansions. With the introduction of all-day school, additional rooms for student support and some special classrooms were required. We extended the three-storey building by some axes, keeping the monopitch roof, the orientation of the classrooms to the south, the construction principles and material selection, only making small modifications and adjustments necessary for changes in building regulations. The main façades were continued with a horizontal order of ribbon windows and balconies, while the rear façades with their load-bearing wood construction are structured vertically. The lower floor contains a large teaching kitchen, some storage and cooling facilities and a classroom. Additional classrooms are located on the ground floor, and rooms for tutoring can be found upstairs.
