Vocational School Ehingen / Donau

2009

1st prize in the qualification process 2007

The school campus between the city limits and the open countryside was extended by a vocational school for domestic, social, educational and caring sciences. On three floors, 17 classrooms, 12 special classrooms, teacher’s and administration rooms, and a library are arranged around two glass-covered, well-lit atriums. The larger hall extends down to the lower floor, where a 180-seat dining hall serves all schools of the campus. The facades, showing brown-beige bricks, are horizontally structured by long windows. Recesses into the rectangular volume with floor-high glazings mark the entrance at the front court and the cafeteria area with an outdoor terrace on the lower floor. The controlled ventilation of all rooms is combined with a geothermal heat exchanger. Solar collectors provide hot water. Rainwater from the roof is reused as gray water inside the building.
